Our History

Since 1946 Republic Shoes has been a vital part of the Denver, CO community. Just after World War II, a young, 26 year old man opened a shoe store in Aurora. The store was originally part of a complex run by a drug company known as Republic Drugs. In order to attract customers, Republic Drugs brought in several vendors to sell an assortment of different products, shoes being one of them. By leasing space with Republic Drugs the shoe store became known as Republic Shoes.

At the time, the main goal for Republic Shoes was to change the shoe market in Colorado by offering shoes in a variety of sizes and widths. Republic Shoes gained public attention by offering narrow shoe sizes for women, not a common practice for shoe stores.

In 1955 Republic Shoes moved to its current location in the University Hills Plaza Shopping Center where it remains a strong presence in Denver still today. We offer our customers the best combination of quality brands and a big selection of dress and casual shoes, plus athletic and running shoes. We also carry boots and adult men’s and women’s shoes, so you’re sure to find what you want, even in hard to find sizes.

Our mission has always been the same and that is to provide the best quality footwear, with the best possible fit, in the size and width that you need!
